My Story with Praise Band
Years ago, I was recruited to join my church praise band, but I did not feel comfortable doing it. I politely declined the invitation every time I was asked to join. Personally, I did not want eyes on me when I worshipped the Lord. I am one to lift my hands and close my eyes and the church I was attending was not that way. Worshipping God felt easier in the pews, and I was not ready to be so bold in front of the congregation.
Eventually, I accepted the invitation to join the worship team and it was a big reason I grew so much in my faith. This decision was challenging, but God worked through it and brought me closer to Him. The Lord showed me that I could do hard things and that it shouldn’t be frightening to lift my hands in church.
Another thing God taught me at that time was that what I sing or how I sing it does not matter. The thing that matters is worshipping Him. When we take time to worship the Lord, we should not be focused on ourselves, but we should be focused on Him. If people want to judge me or others for lifting our hands during worship or closing our eyes, then they are focused on the wrong things.
Why You Shouldn’t Worship God Safely
When other people see you talking about your faith, worshiping God, sharing your testimony, or reading your Bible it could spark conversation. You could even be the reason that someone would come to know Jesus and the sacrifice that He made for us. You could change someone’s life. When you live your faith out boldly people see that and want that. Continue to live out your faith boldly or start because your faith could be the reason someone comes back to their own. You have no idea who you will touch and how the Lord will work in their lives after you help bring them to Jesus.
Don’t Feel like You Can?
If you are going to sing and worship God in front of others, talk about your faith, or share your faith it will be scary but do not let that keep you from doing it. When we do those hard things, it helps us to grow in our faith and speak out more. When the Lord’s presence is with you, and He asks you to do something there is nothing you will do or say that will be wrong because He will lead you and guide you. If you want to or are currently helping others celebrate and worship the amazing Lord! Just remember you are not the one who will change someone’s life, God is. He may use you as a vessel to change someone’s life but do not be so focused on saying or doing the wrong things that you do not take steps forward. God will provide you with the things to say and the actions to do if you are seeking Him out. You are not doing this alone.
Do not be scared to praise God in front of others. Stop being fearful of others’ judgment! Start praying for your friends in public. Sing loudly and proudly at church. Bring your Bible with you places and share about God wherever you go.
