Thanksgiving a Time to have Daily Gratitude to God

There have been many studies on the importance of daily gratitude and thankfulness from increasing lifespan to helping with sickness, but these are not the only reasons to bring daily gratitude into your life. Finding ways to be thankful to God every day can change you!

My Testimony with Daily Gratitude and Thankfulness

Last year I took steps to add daily gratitude and thankfulness into my life. I was in a very negative season of life, and I found it hard to be happy because of my current life circumstances. I knew something needed to change but I did not know what. My circumstances were not going to change, they were in the midst of getting worse so I had to find something to change my perspective and that ended up being daily gratitude. God showed me the importance of bringing thankfulness into every prayer and gratitude into every day.

Now every morning I start my prayers out with thanksgiving to God. I do not want to just come to the Lord in my times of struggles and need, but also in thanks because of all He has done. Giving thanks to God in every prayer I do reminds me that He is a good God and even if He doesn’t answer any more of my prayers, He is still good.

Another way I added gratitude to my life was by doing a daily gratitude journal. Each night I would write down three things I was grateful for and why. This helped me to see not only all I had to be grateful for but also why I should be grateful for these things. I continued to bring gratitude and thankfulness into 2024 because it truly changed my life last year and continues to do so.

Why you Should have Daily Gratitude and Thankfulness

First off, giving thanks to God reminds us of what God has already done in our lives. It helps us to remember that He is faithful to His people and gives His people so much even when we don’t deserve it. Thankfulness and gratitude help remind us that God is not a genie in a bottle, but a loving and caring Father. He answers more than our prayers He gives us more than we could want for ourselves.

Secondly, it helps us when we are in a difficult season of life. When we walk through struggles having thankfulness and gratitude can remind us of God’s character. It can help us to remember the prayers He has already answered in our lives and that He will continue to answer prayers. It helps us to not be so focused on our current circumstances or things we feel we are missing and start living in the moment.

Another reason you should add these to your daily to-do list is because it could change your mindset and help you to be a more positive person. In this world, it can be easy to be a negative Nancy, but people tend to avoid those who are like that. Bring daily gratitude into your life to help change your perspective and see all you have in your life that is good.

Tips to Add Daily Gratitude and Thankfulness into Your Life

1. Start a Gratitude Journal

Get a plain notebook and take time to write three things you are grateful for and why each day. Do not skimp on the reasons why because the why is the most important part. It is easy to just make a list but when you write down why it makes you think and appreciate what you are writing down. Otherwise, find a gratitude journal with prompts that help you add to it and help you reflect on all that you have and can thank God for.

2. Bring Thankfulness into your Prayers

Every time you say a prayer start it with thanking God spend a couple minutes thanking God for the things He has provided you with and the things He has done for you. This will help put into perspective the things you already have and the ways the Lord has already worked in your life.

3. Express Gratitude to Others

Thanksgiving is almost upon us taking time to ask your family and friends what they are thankful for. This will help spark ideas in your own life and potentially see the ways God has worked in the people around your lives. It can be easy to thank God in private but thank God in public and show others you are truly thankful for all the Lord has done for you.

4. Have Thankfulness during Worship

When you are listening to worship music take time to reach out to the Lord and thank Him or when you are at church. Sometimes worship music can move us more and help us to remember all God has done in our lives and the ways He has changed us. Worship can move our souls in ways that other things cannot so it can just open you up to a whole new way to feel gratitude for God.

There is so much to be grateful for in every season of our lives, we just have to open our eyes and see it. Bringing daily gratitude and thankfulness can improve your mood, spirit, and life. Take a week and add it to either your morning or nighttime routine and see all the ways the Lord works through it.
